Baños

Why anyone would want to name a town after a toilet is beyond my understanding (probably because it Baños actually means baths and there are plenty of hot springs located about town..) but Baños is a quiet holiday town devoted to the local attractions: aforementioned hot springs, nearby waterfalls and canyons.  For lack of any real plan of what to do, Jessi and I hired some mountain bikes and head off down the highway.  Starting in town at 1815m asl. the road continues for 18km sloping downhill the entire way so there is almost no effort involved on our ride down the valley.  We get as far as the Pailón del Diablo, a gaping hole in the canyon wall where Rio Verde gushes out, drenching anyone crazy enough to venture close enough.  After lunch we hitch a ride with one of the many enterprising truck drivers offering to ferry the bike riders back up the valley into town.
