I’d originally planned to spend a fair bit of time in Macedonia, riding from Ohrid to Skopje and onward towards Sofia, Bulgaria. But for various reasons I now had to get myself to Istanbul in just over two weeks and abandoned my ideas of riding to the Black Sea, opting instead to head south to Greece and take the shorter & flatter route to Turkey.
With that change in route I decided to spend a couple of days hanging out around Lake Ohrid (definitely recommend swimming in the deep yet warm water while thunderstorms roll down the mountains and across the lake.. fantastic experience!). Eventually setting off again with a mild morning hangover, I rode around the lake and up over the hills (mountain!) into the Galičica National Park, a solid 3 hour trek uphill, but well worth it for the views afforded from the top and speedy downhill on the other side.
